Antique Lace T-Shirt Refashion

My second refashion and I am super-excited about it! I got this plain old T-shirt for a buck. I saw the idea for this on Pinterest but of course it didn’t lead back to the original source. Naughty Pinners! Anyway I had no tutorial so I just figured it out myself. I started by chopping off the sleeves. Then I cut off the top straight across under the collar.

I turned all of the sides under and glued and pressed with this awesome no name brand liquid thread I got at the 99 Cent Store.

20130403-125702.jpg
I left a generous gap at the top for the lace to go through.

20130403-125849.jpg
I let it dry for an hour or so and went out for my morning run. Came back a threaded the lace through using a safety pin.

II get kind obsessed with fabric and notions sometimes.  I love it so much I can’t cut it! Thus was the case with this piece of antique lace.  I couldn’t bring myself to cut it so I just left it long and tied it in a double bow. Love this top!  Easy, fast and cheap…and no-sew…bonus!

Fabric Wrapped Pot

I fell in love with those turquoise fabric wrapped pots I have seen thousands of times on Pinterest and decided to give it a go and make one of my own. My Mom got some great quilting fabric for a steal at a yard sale and she let me go through it before she passed it along to my aunt who is a quilter extraordinaire. I took a square and Mod Poged it to a clay pot I got at the 99 Cent

I wrapped and pressed and molded it to fit. I added an additional coat of Mod Podge on top for extra protection.

All done. Just needs some pretty flowers.

Special Shit Roasted Potatoes

Have you heard of Special Shit? It is an awesome seasoning with salt, pepper, garlic, seasoned salt, chile powder, and paprika. It is wonderful on meats, veggies, on practically everything! I was asked to bring roasted potatoes to Easter Brunch and while normally I use a combination of garlic powder and salt today I thought – Special Shit! So I decided to make Special Shit Roasted Potatoes.

20130331-161944.jpg
Here is my recipe:
1/4 cup olive oil
1 1/2 teaspoons Special Shit
1 teaspoon pepper
2 cubes garlic
3 pounds of potatoes (I used red)
Wash and dry potatoes. Chop them into bite sized pieces and place in a big bowl. Mix all other ingredients in another smaller bowl. Pour over potatoes and mix thoroughly. Bake in a 400 degree oven for an hour. Stir twice while baking. Enjoy!

So I just blew my vow of never cursing on this blog. Although I swear in real life I wanted to keep this place non-offensive and kid friendly and all. I cant help it that the product contains a curse word ;)

Spring Mantel

I finished (and am very happy with) my Spring Mantel. For just a few dollars I purchased some goodies from the dollar store, made a few things, and reused some stuff that was already there.

My White Pages Rosette Topiary along with Sheet Music Candles and Crepe Paper Rosette Balls left over from Valentines Day.

Stenciled Pillow

This project happened quite by accident when I was doing my Tank Top Update. I mixed up too much Fabric Paint and was searching madly for more things to stencil. I found some pillowcases I got at my sisters yard sale. I was given quite a few after the sale was over because they didn’t sell and were going to be donated. So they were free! I stenciled them and stuffed them with some stuffing I had on hand.

Jade Plant Arrangement

Here is another As Seen On TV one, folks. Last weekend as I was watching a Property Brothers marathon (I know, I need to get out more) I spied this lovely little arrangement.

20130318-202315.jpg
Holy cow, it was a jade plant arrangement! And it looked great! The problem here being that I have intensely disliked Jade my whole life and have given my mother quite a hard time for using it as “filler” in her garden for years. So at the risk of suffering family humiliation and possibly losing a dear friend who can’t stand the stuff (for very good reason), I made my own jade plant arrangement. I used a 99 Cent Store pot along with floral foam.

20130318-203139.jpg
I poked holes in the floral foam and added the Jade. I then added some bark. Here is my version. I do love it.

Shamrock Shake Martini

Happy St. Patty’s Day everyone! I have been a bit remiss with my Martini of the Month this year, but today I was inspired. I made a Shamrock Shake Martini and it was quite tasty! Here is my recipe for a Shamrock Shake Martini:

4 oz. Pinnacle Cake (or Whipped) vodka
1/2 tsp. mint extract
2 oz. vanilla creamer (I used sugar free)
A tiny bit of sweetener, either half a packet of Truvia or a tsp of sugar
Green Food Coloring (which I didn’t have so I used 3 drops of yellow and one blue – it was perfect!)
Combine ingredients in a martini shaker and do the shamrock shake!

20130318-113319.jpg

It has been a while since I have had a McDonald’s Shamrock Shake but from what I remember this looked and tasted pretty similar. Loved the greed color and the creamy mint flavor. Oh, speaking of the mint flavor, I would like to share something that I found in my research. When I first thought about making a Shamrock Shake Martini I was unsure whether if was peppermint or spearmint flavor. Not peppermint! There are a few folks out there who are adamant about that. It is just regular mint (or spearmint) flavor which is why I used mint extract instead of my Starbucks Peppermint syrup. Happy to share that little tidbit with ‘ya!

White Pages Rosette Topiary

So what did I make with my white pages rosettes? I am glad you asked. I made a topiary! I covered a wiffle ball (I had to borrow one from Bella) with white pages. Then I made dozens and dozens and even more dozens of rosettes. A few dozen more and I had enough to make a White Pages Rosette Topiary.

20130312-213404.jpg
Doesn’t it look pretty?  I re-used the base from my Feathered Heart Topiary.  If you missed that the base was a Planters peanut can wrapped in contact paper and the stick was a chopstick wrapped with ribbon.  So other than supplies this project is 100% upcycled.

White Pages Rosette

I love all of the book page things I see in Blogland. I really do! But for some reason I can’t bring myself to tear up a book. I don’t know why. So when the white pages came last week and I was tossing the old one in the recycle bin I had an idea. I could use these for something! I made rosettes. I tore out pages and cut them in circles.

20130310-224001.jpg
I cut a spiral out of the page.

20130310-224158.jpg
The funkier and more uneven the better. Then roll. And roll and roll and roll.

20130310-224749.jpg
And finish with a healthy bead of glue (I used Elmer’s)

20130310-225020.jpg
All done!

T-Shirt Refashion

I got this cool concert t-shirt for my birthday last year.

20130309-204016.jpg
I loved it but it sat in a drawer and I didn’t wear it. I have no idea why not. I love the colors, the design, the band and everything. A couple of weeks ago I was watching tv and I saw a girl with the most adorable t-shirt. I paused the show and immediately snapped a picture.

20130309-204551.jpg
What? Am I the only one who takes pictures of the tv as inspiration? Probably. Oh well. Anyways, I decided that that style was just what my cute concert shirt needed to make it super-cute. Today I was brave enough to try it.
I started by cutting off the neck.

20130309-210111.jpg
Then the sleeve hem.

20130309-210232.jpg
Then I cut a slit in the top of each sleeve and tied a little knot.

20130309-210453.jpg
All done! My first T-Shirt Refashion! I was so exited to wear it today! Even though it was cold and I had to wear a sweater over it but I know my super cute shirt will get a lot of use very soon. Happy Daylight Savings time everybody. Spring will soon be here!
