Ten Uses For Lavender In Your Beauty Routine

Lavender is one if nature’s wonder drugs! It calms the nerves, soothes and relaxes, and has many uses ranging from culinary to medical. I’d like to focus on Lavender’s beautification properties. It has many cosmetic uses and can quite easily be incorporated into any daily regime. I have tons of lavender growing outside so I have been researching ways to use it more to take advantage of its many wonderful properties. Here are Ten Uses For Lavender In Your Beauty Routine.

1. Lavender Steam Facial. I posted about this last year. Toss few handfuls of fresh or dried lavender (I used both) into a big bowl and add hot water. Lean over the bowl and cover your head with a towel. You will have a wonderful steam facial that will leave your skin smooth and radiant.

2. Lavender Toner. Add a few drops of lavender essential oil to some Witch Hazel mixed with purified water. Put in a spray bottle and spritz on your face. You will have a fantastic toner that will tighten pores and leave skin fresh and lovely.

3. Lavender Body Spray. Add a few drops of sesame or vitamin E oil to the above recipe and you will have a body spray that will leave skin silky smooth. It will rival anything on the market for pennies on the dollar.

4. Lavender Body Scrub. My sister makes a great one! Mix up a few drops of lavender essential oil with Epsom Salts and a little sesame oil. Toss in a bit of dried lavender (note: may hang around in bathtub) and head directly to the shower to use your amazing new body scrub.

5. Lavender Hair Rinse. Steep a few heads of fresh lavender in some warm water. Use as a final rinse when washing your hair. It will help keep dandruff at bay while making your hair feel soft and beautiful.

6. Lavender Bath Bombs. I love bath bombs! I used this recipe that combines Epsom Salt, baking soda and citric acid. Add dried lavender, lavender essential oils, and a little Vitamin E oil and you’ll have a lavender beauty bomb that will leave you feeling relaxed and lovely.

7. Lavender Lip Balm. Lavender’s healing properties make it perfect for soothing chapped lips. Smash up a ready made lip balm from the dollar store and add a few drops of lavender essential oil or make your own and kiss chapped lips goodbye.

8. Lavender Fragrance Oil. It is said that Cleopatra used lavender oil as a perfume. It has relaxing as well as seductive properties. Combine equal parts of lavender essential oil, vanilla essential oil, and almond or sesame oil and you’ll have a fresh, sexy fragrance that can be worn anytime – day or night.

9. Lavender Skin Elixer. Lavender can be used to treat a variety of skin issues including acne, bug bites, rashes, and even burns. Apply the oil directly to the problem area. It is great for dry skin as well. Mix in a couple of drops a couple of squirts of lotion and it will soothe even the driest of skin.

10. Lavender Linen Spray. We all know the importance of beauty sleep. Mix in a bit of lavender oil into a spray bottle full of Witch Hazel for a lovely linen spray that will enhance relaxation and induce sleep. Sweet dreams!

Big Girl Cosmetic Pencil Sharpener

Did you ever have a day when you did a lot but had nothing to show for it? I had a day like that today, puttering and projecting, but nothing seemed to go anywhere. Except for this! I needed a cosmetics pencil sharpener to carry in my purse to sharpen lip pencils. Cosmetics pencil sharpeners can be a bit pricey, or a bit…shall we say…unattractive, so I made one! I got this one at the 99 Cent Store in a packet of other school supplies.

I peeled the tinker bell sticker off, even though it was cute, and changed it into a big girl cosmetics pencil sharpener. I did this by adding dozens of crystals. I used my favorite glue, Tacky Glue, and started adding crystals one by one working my way outwards from the center.

All done!

I Love eBay – Nautical Blue Eyeliner

I love eBay! It is the best place to find rare or discontinued items at a great price! I found the eyeliner that I used to wear in high school on eBay. It is Nautical Blue by Maybelline. It is the perfect shade of teal, a true mixture between blue and green, and it wears beautifully. At $11.95 it was not exactly what I call a bargain but the nostalgia of wearing my favorite eyeliner from high school is absolutely priceless!

Secrets Of The Universe Mascara

Sometimes when I see the section of stores where there are products in foreign languages, I think, “Those products probably hold all the secrets of the universe”. All of the beauty secrets, that is! Well, this one does!

20120613-220107.jpg
I didn’t find it in the “secrets of the universe” section, it was given to me by a friend, as it is not sold here. Too bad! It is an awesome product, and apparently it sells for super cheap, and it makes your lashes super long!

Bargain Of The Week – Elf Beauty Book

I got this Elf Beauty Book at Big Lots recently for five bucks:

I wasn’t familiar with the brand, bur it was a total bargain imho! It has six eye shadows, an eye liner, and an eye shadow primer. The eye shadows are super-gorgeous. Unbelievably rich color and awesome coverage!

There is even a diagram page with instructions and tips on how to use the colors.

Bargain of the week, and a total score for five bucks!

I Love eBay! Stila Illuminating Finishing Powder Bronzer

I love eBay! I also love using bronzer as a substitute for both powder and blush.  I dust it all over my face for overall color and then a little more on my cheeks for a healthy glow. I got this bronzer for 5 bucks and some change on ebay. It goes from $19 to $30 online. I really like this product. It is lumininescent without making your face look greasy, it gives decent coverage, and it doesn’t look too orangey. It looks like it is that price because of a product close out so I had probably better get more. At that price it’s a steal!

Bargain of the Week – Avon Super Shock eyeliner

I LOVE this eyeliner! I don’t normally wear makeup on the weekends but I wanted to try the eyeliner so I used it with some bronzer and a little mascara. It looked awesome! It reminds me of Mac Blitz & Glitz only it is better and at a fraction of the price. I got the blackened metal which♦ is not quite black and not quite grey and it is really sparkley which I love. I used it today with eye shadow for the first time and it looks stunning. Love, Love, Love it!

Bargain of the Week – Avon Advance Techniques Damage Repair

While we are sort of still on the subject of pampering, I’ve got one last post…I am absolutely loving this new product I have been using! Avon Advance Techniques Damage Repair is an amazing product that leaves your hair soft and silky. I have thick, course hair and it has never been what you’d call soft. Until now! With this product, my hair is definitely softer, and I am loving it! I shampoo my hair as usual, but skip the conditioner. I towel dry my hair, comb it out, and apply a small amount of Advance Techniques. The result is gorgeous, silky hair. And at $9.99, Advance Techniques is a bargain, and a must have!
