Tarnished Earring Save

I love costume jewelry! The only problem is that it tarnishes. Quickly. I have had these earrings for a while. I think I got them when I dressed up as Kat Von D for Halloween one year.

So they tarnished as usual. I have been hanging on to them in the hopes that I could think up a way to make them gold again. I used nail polish on my Bling Ring Redo and I remembered that I have a new OPI nail polish from the James Bond collection (bought on eBay of course). It is called Goldeneye and it is gold with gold sparkles. Perfect!

Bling Ring Redo

I got this ring last Christmas. Which basically means it was sitting in my jewelry box for over a year untouched. Yesterday I decided to do something with it. I was gonna cover it with bling but once I painted it I loved it! I painted it with nail polish, OPI’s Live And Let Die, from the new James Bond 007 collection. Super pretty! I could have left it like that but decided to line the outside with bling. I used clear Swarovski crystals. I am loving my new bling ring redo!

Dessert Stand Turned Into Earring Holder

“Go clean your room” I said to myself today. So I did! I have been so busy with my living room and creative space redo that the rest of the house has gotten quite messy. So clean my room I did, and while I was at it, I turned a dessert stand into earring holder. I took a vintage depression glass dessert stand and loaded it up with all of my earrings, and made it into an earring holder. I had to! My earrings had gotten out of control, overflowing from one container into another, until I had 4 separate dishes holding different sizes. I had a beautiful depression glass dessert stand in the cupboard that I was supposed to give to my mother (sorry Rosie!) and so I thought it would be perfect as an earring holder. Here is my dessert stand into earring holder:

I love it! All of the smaller earrings are on top, and the larger ones on the bottom, with the dangling ones in between. All of the earrings are organized, displayed, and ready to be worn! I am not sure if it is supposed to, but the top tier rotates to allow me access to the ones in back.

I am most happy with it!

A Necklace For Charity

I didn’t make this necklace, I bought it, and was thrilled to do so. It came from a jewelry show where the proceeds go to charity. The owner of the company, La Viajera, collects pieces from all over the world and transforms things such as belts, earrings, and other trinkets into beautiful necklaces!

I love this necklace and I love that it is all about giving back!

Repurposed Watch Into Multi Purpose Bracelet

Yesterday I showed how I made a $150 bracelet for free. Today I am going to explain how I turned the faux jasper beads into a bracelet and show what else I made yesterday while playing. I used a watch! My mom gave me a really cool bracelet watch that used to belong to my Aunt Susie. It didn’t have a battery, and I don’t really wear watches, but I knew I could make it into a cool bracelet! I used a dot of self sticking Velcro on the face.

20120812-212845.jpg
I attached the female part of the Velcro to the back of the faux jasper beads disc.

20120812-213746.jpg
Look what else I made!

20120812-213935.jpg
I made a rosette out of a vintage piece of lace and a fancier one out of some glittery fabric I got on clearance at Joann’s. I used my no sew, no hot glue method for these. I attached Velcro to them as well. I also used a button, a capiz shell with glass beads, supplies left over from my bottle cap necklace project with Swarovski crystals, and a twine disc made from a cereal box. All have Velcro and are interchangeable. How great would these be for traveling? One bracelet worn in a multitude of ways!

$150 Bracelet For Freeeeee

Today was too hot to work outdoors! It was kind of a relief to take a break from my outdoor projects as I had a design deadline I had to meet. So today I would take breaks and just play. Play! I never do that. But I should do it more often as it totally opened up my creativity! I made a bracelet that I have been wanting to make for a while now. I have been wanting to make a version of a jasper bracelet that I saw in a catalog for $150. Today I did it, not thinking about it, just playing and letting my creativity flow.
I took a strand of beads that I got at my sisters yard sale and painted it aqua. I used Krylon Aqua spray paint. When it was dry, I brushed it with acrylic paint that I got at another yard sale. I used olive, blue green, and turquoise mixing and blending as I went along so that the beads resembled the jasper beads in my catalog.

20120811-213631.jpg
At this time, I was just playing, not even sure it was going to work. When the beads started resembling the ones in the catalog I knew I was on the right track. I needed a base for the bracelet so I took an aluminum to-go container (that I had washed and dried) and cut out the center in a circle. It needed some stability so I cut out some cardboard in the same size and shape as a backing. I used a cereal box from the recycle bin. I love repurposing!
I glued them together and spray painted them brown with Krylon Espresso. I brushed a bit of gold acrylic paint on and it was perfect!
I glued the faux jasper beads in the center of the disk with Tacky Glue, winding around from the center.

20120811-220139.jpg
I kept gluing and winding until it was done. When it was dry I dabbed a bit of nutmeg paint on the beads here and there.

20120811-224701.jpg
Check back tomorrow to see how I turned this into a bracelet and to see what other things I came up with while playing today. Play! Who knew?
Here is the $150 version:

Crystal Drop Earrings

Last week, while out jogging with Bella, I spied a cardboard box at the curb of one of the houses on our route. Guess what was in it? Leftover pieces from a crystal chandelier! I doubled back there towards the end of our run and stuffed my pockets full of treasure!
Today I made some earrings out of a couple of the strands. I washed and dried them and removed the hook that attaches crystals to the chandelier.

20120722-202737.jpg
I used a finding with a loop on the end, threaded it through the hole in the top of the crystal, and bent it upward.

20120722-203421.jpg
I looped it around three times and snipped the end with needle nose pliers.

20120722-203836.jpg
I added a French wire hook and tightened the existing connectors and they were done!

20120722-204412.jpg
So pretty and sparkly!

And the best part is, since I had everything, they were freeeeee!

I Love Yard Sales – $1.00 Candy Dish

I got this darling candy dish last month in my yard sale haul. It took me a little while to figure out what to do with it. My bracelet box was overflowing and would not close, so I decided to separate out the bangles.

20120501-212144.jpg
I love how it looks like a dish of ice cream all piled up like a bangle sundae! But since it is piled so high, this may not be a permanent solution, but it is fine for now. And I have to admit I love the price tag!
