Bargain-ista Gift Basket

My sister and I got talked into doing a gift basket for a charity event (OK so I was the one that got talked into it) and this is what we did. I took a shoe box and wrapped it in contact paper.

Filled the box with shred from my mothers paper shredder. We had some of the items on hand and dashed off to the dollar store for the rest.

We bought bubble bath and packaged it in a mason jar. We also bought another cute jar with a lid and my sister whipped up a batch of her awesome body scrub which she makes by combining Epsom salts, vitamin e oil, and fragrance. So we spent about 7 bucks and ended up with a bubblicious basket Bargain-ista style!

Bargain-ista Gift Basket

My home town has a float in the Rose Parade every year. My sister and I promised to donate a gift basket for the float’s fundraising party this year. We had lots of items but no gift basket to put them in. I had a shoe box handy and got the idea to cover it with contact paper.

I don’t have photos of the process but here it is all done:

We went with a spa theme and included some yummy bath salts my sister makes and other spa-like items. My mother had the idea to use shredded paper as the base of the basket. Totally brilliant and bargain-ista!

A Necklace For Charity

I didn’t make this necklace, I bought it, and was thrilled to do so. It came from a jewelry show where the proceeds go to charity. The owner of the company, La Viajera, collects pieces from all over the world and transforms things such as belts, earrings, and other trinkets into beautiful necklaces!

I love this necklace and I love that it is all about giving back!

Priceless

I saw this last night on a car at the 99 Cent Store. Although Bella wasn’t a Rescue Dog, I have had others who were, and I believe dogs rescue us WAY more than we rescue them. It pretty much sums up how I feel about dogs in general…

Relay For Life 2012

Once a year
We put on the gear
We remember the man
With a drink in his hand
Mark’s Manhattan Project is the name
Nuking cancer is the game!
We put up a tent
It is time well spent
We gather some chairs
To show we still care
We start the walk
Walkin’ the talk
Lap after lap
We celebrate, remember & fight back
So it goes, into the night
When it gets dark, it is a delight
Luminarias light up the way
Names of folks they all say
People with cancer, you see
Some in honor, others in memory
We continue on throughout the night
Then it’s over after first light
Come next year we will do it again
For you, Mark Whitney, father and friend.

I Love Yard Sales, Can A Yard Sale Change The World?

I love yard sales! I got this cache today at a yard sale that was raising money for world hunger:

20120331-203702.jpg
I got a pair of beaded hoop earrings, some possibly real silver bangles and ring, a friggin gorgeous turquoise and gold bangle, a cute painted ring (also turquoise), a fun multicolored dangle ring, breast cancer rubber bangles with a charm and so much more! I got everything for 4 bucks so I threw in the extra dollar for the cause. Visit www.30hourfamine.org for more information.

Locks of Love!

Just in time for Valentines Day – the day of love. So for quite a while now, I have been rocking what I call “housewife hair”. You know, those housewives on TV who seem to do everything but housewife. But they seem to have beautiful long locks. And so did I, until today. Today I cut 10 inches off my hair to donate to Locks of Love, a fantastic organization that makes wigs from real human hair for kids with cancer. Here is what I cut off:

I have always wanted to do this! I am so happy. The thought of giving back to a child with cancer is, well, priceless.

A Valentine For Children’s Hospital

All I did to make this sweet valentine was to print out a vintage angel from The Graphics Fairy, cut out cute shapes from an Ulta catalog, paste everything on with a glue stick, glitter up one side and bling out the other. This was both a fundraiser and a friendraiser for Children’s hospital. The cost to participate was $5, and the valentine goes to a sick child, so it is a total win-win and it is priceless!

Tip For Prosperity – Share Your Heart

I was reminded today that as we focus on finances, bargains, and saving money it can create a sense of withholding or lack. The antidote? Give of yourself – share your heart! We absolutely receive what we give…so let’s give more! It doesn’t have to be money. It can be time, compliments, a smile, anything that will uplift someone else. As we go throughout our days, throughout our lives, let’s remember to take the opportunity to give back whenever we can. Let’s smile more at strangers, compliment each other, volunteer to help when we can. There are so many ways to share of ourselves by sharing our hearts!
