Quickie But Cutie Candle Update

I got the cutest pink rose at the thrift store last week for 50 cents!

I brought it home and pondered what to do with it. It would look great on a headband…or a tshirt…or a photo frame. But in the end I think it wanted to be a candle!

I glued it onto a dollar store glass candle. Happiness! For now…it may become a headband or something else later…we’ll see!

Vintage Sheet Music Candles

I made the cutest candles!  I am calling them Vintage Sheet Music Candles.

20130119-213629.jpg
I wanted to make something with sheet music.  But I didn’t have the heart to cut up real sheet music.  Then I had a thought.  Print it out on the printer!  I thought maybe I could find something online with a special love song or something. I googled vintage sheet music and I found these adorable printables!

You can get them here. God bless the wonderful people like Free Vintage Digi Stamps and The Graphics Fairy for providing us with such great artwork.  And for free! What would we do without them?  Anyways, I didn’t have to scale these images or anything. They fit perfectly on some dollar store glass candles! I just cut them out and mod podged them on. They will be great on my Valentines Mantel!

Epsom Salt Candles

I am in love with these Epsom salt candles! I needed some candles for a display and to ultimately end up on my Christmas mantel. I knew immediately that I wanted to use Epsom salts. I did some research and loved the colored ones but found that the ones with the food coloring fade rather quickly. Fade! Oh no! I wanted a glittery look so I decided to use my trusty Martha Stewart glitter paint.
I took a half of a cup of Epsom salts and a healthy squirt of the glitter paint.

I stirred it up and added that much paint again. I dumped it out on a plastic shoe box lid. I painted the side of a dollar store glass candle with Mod Podge and rolled it in the salt mixture.

20121201-185859.jpg
I went section by section, painting and rolling as I went. Let dry overnight.

20121201-190307.jpg
Here it is on my display. It looks like the food coloring kind but I am hoping they won’t fade.

20121201-190524.jpg
The mixture made 2 candles and I even had enough to cover a jar candle holder.

Love! I used a different technique where I mixed in water and painted it on with a foam brush. It was messy as all get-out but I totally dig the results!

DIY Moroccan Lantern

Last weekend when I was cleaning my room I thought my bay window could use a little something. A lantern perhaps? I started doing some research and I saw some adorable hanging lanterns on etsy but at 30 bucks apiece including shipping, I thought not, and I thought DIY. Here is how I made my DIY Moroccan Lantern. I repurposed a jar candle that had burnt out.

20121110-213126.jpg
I removed the wax, washed and dried it. Then I drew the design I wanted and popped it into the bottom of the jar. I took some Tulip pearl dimensional paint that I got at the 99 cent store and traced around the design in solid lines and dot patterns.

20121110-214024.jpg
Then I painted the inside of the jar with a mixture of Mod Podge, acrylic paint, and water.

Living Redo – Day 33: Flameless LED Candles, A Cheap Solution

Day 33. Down to one pile. Yay! I am pretty sure I’ll be able to wrap up this room redo this weekend. I hope! I am excited to share a cheap solution today. I love candles and have votive holders everywhere, including some places that may not be ideal for candles. An example would be a hook I screwed under my mantel that I love to hang lanterns on. The only problem is that it is less than 10 inches away from the mantel and can (and does) create lots of soot. The solution? The cheap solution? Flameless LED candles from the 99 Cent Store!

20121003-214050.jpg
They flicker like real candles, don’t heat up, and don’t create any soot! Now, they don’t look, feel, or smell like real candles but when used sparingly with real candles will work great!

Firefly Lantern Redo

I need more backyard lighting. I love my spot, and it is well lit, by a Moroccan lamp that I bought at a store that no longer exists and I still miss. But the rest of the backyard gets pretty dark. So I got an an idea! The words that make Ethel cringe on an episode of I Love Lucy. Heehee. Anyway…I have some hanging candle lanterns that I hardly use. Why not make them into backyard lighting? I took my beat up old lantern and gave it a quick sand.

20120801-213403.jpg
I painted it with some matte black artist acrylic paint that I got at a yard sale. I stuffed it with a strand of twinkle lights and turned the opening to the back. Voila! Backyard lighting!

Free Is The Magic Number!

I love free! My friend who used to be a Partylite representative gave me these votive candles that she used to use as samples:

She knows I love candles and was so sweet to give them to me! I am happy to have them and will absolutely use them. Free is the magic number!

Discounted Ombre Candles

These candles were on sale at Von’s for 2 for $2.25. My boyfriend picked them up the other day. They are made by Glade so they make the house smell super-good! And, even better, I came home from work tonight to a clean house! Thanks, Babe!!!
