My bamboo furniture is finished! The bench I showed last week needed a little more reinforcement so I used more glue (this time I used an all purpose epoxy) and more hits with the compressor gun in all of the joints. This helped a lot! Strong Like Bull!

I did an about-face with the color. I was gonna do a glaze with some olive color acrylic paint, but I got some nice comments about the color, so I decided to leave it. I tried quite a few different colors but the one I liked best was Rustoleum Eden. It was a matte finish so I followed up with a clear gloss.

Happy now! I used a couple of dollar store vinyl tablecloths to wrap the cushions. I went for a tonal green effect. I brought out the screenprinted pillows I made last week.

I guess it is easy being green! Speaking of being green, I think I am done with spray paint for a while. I used 10+ cans for this project, and got a headache each time I used it. I love how fast and convenient it is, but I think it is time for a greener approach, whenever possible. At least the bamboo furniture is finished for now! It is in good shape to weather the rains. Oh wait, it rained last week. Oh well…

Day 23 and I finished painting! Yay! I finished painting the ceiling and the last remaining wall with the Coastal Path Oops paint. I also got one more mess off my list. Double yay! I stained the inside of my living room window. I had these windows installed years ago but never stained or painted the inside. I was gonna paint, then I changed my mind, and then I did nothing. Butbtoday I tackled it, using the stain left over from my front fence, and it is perfect because it matches the outside of the window!
The glass is dirty, and I had way too much on my list today to stop and wash windows but here is a cool shot of the light coming through the stained glass insert.

I’ll wash windows soon and show my hard work in the reveal!

This weekend I tackled another mess. I don’t have a before photo but there was a dilapidated bench that used to hold plants that is now gone. I got rid of the bench, but kept the two wrought iron end pieces as decoration. I added a salvaged piece of a screen door and a mask that I painted years ago in Cancun.

I also cleaned out the fridge and the front closet so three messes are off my list!

The backyard bougainvillea has been hacked back. WAY back. It hasn’t grown in yet, and still doesn’t look great, but I can show some moments.

Another mess off my list! I have a ficus tree in the backyard that is special to me as it was given to me by a former roommate before she moved up north. I promised to take good care of it and have nurtured it from a foot high baby to its current height of over six feet. I lost half of it in a cold snap that we had a few years ago but it is still okay! Whew! This weekend I gave it a little attention. Before:

Ugh. But I pulled the weeds, cleaned it up, and stained the pot with stain left over from my front fence. My tin can lantern found a home too!

Happy now!

Or half happy anyway…

Hope everyone had a great loooong holiday weekend! I sure did! I tackled quite a few messes in the yard. It is such a great feeling to work out in the yard and see immediate results! Here is Mess No. 12, the lily and iris bed:

How did that happen? The weeds seemed to spring up overnight! Well they are gone now!

Why didn’t I trim that iris? Darn. Anyway, the succulents look good:

Now that my car is back on the road, it needs to look good. I gave it a good cleaning and vacuuming and washed the floor mats. But it needed something else! I spotted these Ed Hardy seat covers at Big Lots and knew they would be perfect!
