I have been wanting to make a piece of garden art out of a window for a loooong time. I got it in my head that I should use a map and have been looking for a vertical map to fit the space in the garden. Not so easy to find! Every map that I have come across lately is horizontal. I thought a map of California would be perfect, but not so much, as it was horizontal too. Huh?
This weekend, at my sisters yard sale, at last I found a map that was vertical! Yay! It was a map of the San Francisco Bay area. I love San Francisco, and have been there many times, but don’t live anywhere near there. Then I remembered my current favorite album, Save Me San Francisco by Train, which was coincidentally playing as I contemplated my project. Perfect!
Here is how I made my Save Me San Francisco Window Garden Art:
I dug an old window out of the garage. What? Doesn’t everyone have windows that have been sitting there for years, rescued on the roadside after the neighbors replaced their old wood windows with energy efficient ones? No? Figures.
Anyways, I took my map and window:

And decided that the best way would be to cut out squares that fit the window panes. I made a cardboard template and traced around the map.

Sorry for the dirty nails – I have been working in the garden
I then cut out all of the squares and Mod Podged them to the window.

I gave each square another coat of Mod Podge on the back and let it dry. I added some eye hooks and wire to the top for hanging and hung it up.

I love it {hug} chippy and all!

My favorite album is now my favorite piece of garden art!

I love this. My hubby works in San Francisco. His office is in the 2nd frame from the bottom on the right hand side. I wish I had a spare window around, I would love to make this for his office. Thanks for adding this to the Our Favorite Things Link Party.
This is an awesome idea! I am pinning!
